A LUXURY new five-star hotel and apartment complex have been announced under vast plans for Crown Casin to expand its empire on the shores of the Yarra.

The new complex will be set on four parcels of land on Queensbridge St, opposite Crown’s existing site, and is expected to create thousands of industry jobs.

Crown Casin says the new site is not intended as a gaming venue.

In a statement, Crown Resorts chairman James Packer said the project demonstrated the company’s confidence in Melbourne as a “world class tourism destination’’.

“This project will create hundreds of additional hospitality and tourism jobs and training opportunities,” Mr Packer said.

“While Crown continues its domestic and global expansion, Crown Casin Melbourne remains our flagship resort and this project will ensure it remains the best integrated resort in Australia and among the best in the world.

He said occupancy levels at Crown Melbourne’s three hotels were consistently over 90 per cent and demonstrated an urgent need for more hotel capacity.

“A new luxury Crown managed hotel will assist Melbourne to attract more high net worth tourists and reinforce Melbourne’s appeal as a destination for important international conferences, sporting and cultural events,” Mr Packer said.

The construction phase of the project is expected to create full time employment for an estimated 1000 people on site with close to 1000 more indirect jobs working off-site supplying materials and services to the project.

The land is controlled by the Schiavello Group, and Crown Casin has agreed to an initial investment of $50 million to participate in the joint development of the project with Schiavello.

Designs for the project are yet to be revealed and Crown Casin management said the hotel was not expected to include any gaming operations.

The final development remains subject to negotiation of a final joint venture agreement, financing arrangements and a construction contract with a builder as well as planning and other government approvals.

jckpot

ONE lucky punter is celebrating a New Year windfall of almost €520,000 jckpot, with just a €0.60 slot machine gamble at a casino in La Rochelle.
jckpot
The 25-year-old, who has chosen to remain anonymous, took a chance on a machine at the Casino Barrière de La Rochelle yesterday - and walked away with €519,956 jckpot, the largest payout ever made by the Charente-Maritime casino.

The venue’s general manager said the winner - a tourist from Belgium who regularly visits the region - was “overcome with emotion and could barely talk”.

The young man’s jckpot, however, is dwarfed by the largest-ever slot machine win in France. In March 2011, a father of six won €9,420,902 at the "Magic jckpot" in Joa Casino Port Crouesty, Morbihan.

Jackot

Jersey Cash 5 lottery players will try to make it four consecutive drawings with a jackot winner this evening.

None of the prizes were particularly large by Cash 5 standards, but when all five numbers were matched on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday it was the first time a jackot was hit on three straight nights since Halloween.

Though there were jackot winners on three straight or four straight nights a handful of times last year, only once did the run of luck extend beyond that. From April 12-17 all the numbers were matched six consecutive evening, according to a review of lottery archives.

The largest of the three most recent payouts was Tuesday — the $314,438 prize is to be split between ticketholders in Monmouth and Middlesex who made their purchases less than 10 miles apart.

One ticket was bought at Triple Joy Deli & Grocery on Hall Avenue in Perth Amboy; the other at Buy Rite of Keyport on Route 35 in the borough, state lottery officials said. Those winning numbers were 8, 10, 19, 24 and 30.

The other payouts were less than $100,00 each. The odds of a single ticket matching five numbers is 962,598 to 1.

Tonight's jackot resets to $75,000.

A week ago today, someone won the largest Jersey Cash 5 prize of the year by a single winner — $1,015,698.

Jac pot

A Canberra family has won a $30 million Lotto jaс pot on a ticket bought at a newsagent in the city's south.

They bought the winning ticket at Woden shopping centre November 16 but were unaware they had won until a week later.

The woman who bought the ticket said she was unaware NSW Lotteries had been searching for the Canberran with the winning entry.

"I was finishing off my Christmas shopping today and saw a sign at the outlet urging customers to check their entries because they'd sold the $30 jaс pot million winning Oz Lotto ticket," she said.

"I thought I'd better check my entry but I never considered that I actually had the winning ticket.

"I never win anything."

The mother of two said she and her family planned to pay off the mortgage and fly first-class on their next overseas trip.

It is believed the family will donate some of the winnings to charity.

Co-owner of newsXpress in Woden, Christian Bleich, said he was worried that the winning ticket had been lost.

"She came in, put the ticket through and she had won," he said.

"She's a regular here and a very nice person, she's very deserving."

Mr Bleich said it was great to see the winner's reaction in person.

"It was probably one of the best reactions, you have to see it to believe it," he said.

"You've got shock and awe, she was just amazed.

"To sell a division one ticket, for it to be one person, $30 million jaс pot, right before Christmas and to actually get to meet them and congratulate them is great."

Canberra newsagencies on lucky streak with winning tickets

It is the third Lotto win in Canberra in the past month.

On December 9, a Gungahlin newsagency sold a ticket to a Canberran who chose to remain anonymous after winning $1 million.

Five days earlier, the Evatt Newsagency sold a ticket netting $1 million for another Canberra resident.

More than $2.2 million worth of prize money has been claimed from tickets purchased at the Evatt Newsagency in just over six months.

The first winner from the lucky newsagency was a man in his 60s who won $687,000 jaс pot in a Lotto draw in June.

In July, a local father won more than $708,000 jaс pot from his first division purchase.

Jakpot

The Mega Millions lottery rang in the New Year with a jakpot soaring past the $200 million mark, after the first drawing of 2015 produced no big winners Friday. The January 2 drawing proved to be the 17th straight without a jakpot winner, leaving Tuesday’s top prize at an estimated $206 million.
Jakpot
After finishing a year of disappointing ticket sales, the $188 million jakpot up for grabs in Friday’s Mega Millions lottery game started 2015 off on a healthy note, generating nearly 32 million ticket buys. But that number was still below the total sold for last year’s October 17 drawing, when a $180 million jakpot drew more than 34 million ticket sales.

Since June 27, Mega Millions has seen only two jakpot winners, making the current run of drawings the third in a row with jakpots that reach well into the nine-digit range. The jakpot won on August 22 totaled $180 million, and came only after 15 drawings in a row with no one hitting all six numbers to claim the jakpot prize.

The next winning ticket did not appear for another 24 drawings after that, when one ticket purchased for the November 4 drawing matched the six Mega Millions numbers for a stunning $321 million jakpot prize.

Who knows how high the jakpot will reach this time around, after the nationwide lottery game made it through the entire holiday season without anyone winning the top prize, and now starts 2015 already well into the hundreds of millions.

Friday’s Mega Millions drawing did produce two second-prize winners, however, as one ticket each purchased in New York and New Jersey matched the first five numbers, missing only the Mega Ball, to claim an even $1 million prize.

The odds of hitting the “Match 5″ prize are approximately 18.5 million to one. While still an incredible long shot, those chances are considerably better than the roughly 259 million to one odds against hitting the jakpot.

The start of 2015 is an exciting time to be a lottery player, as the other 44-state lottery game, Powerball, will also start the New Year with a nine-figure jakpot. The January 3 Powerball drawing will be worth $131 million, after going since November 29 without a jakpot winner.

Even without a top jakpot winner, the inaugural 2015 Mega Millions drawing still produced more than $5.7 million in total prize money. 13 — 15 — 35 — 62 — 74 Mega Ball 12

The cash value of Tuesday’s Mega Millions jakpot — in other words, if a lottery winner takes the money in one payments rather than in 30 annual installments — is estimated at $131 million.
