The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has released monthly online gambling figures for August that show $10.54 million in Internet win during the month, a jump of 4.5 percent from July.
Of that win, $8.3 million came from casino games, while $2.2 million was attributable to online poker. The number of registered accounts in New Jersey grew by 6.5% to 431,617.
Tropicana and Borgata Big Winners
The Tropicana continues to make huge gains in New Jersey iGaming despite not offering poker. In August, the Trop took in $2.26 million compared to $1.96 million in July. The 13% gain was the largest among NJ iGaming sites for the month. Tropicana is currently third overall in annual iGaming revenue with a win of $14.05 million through August.
The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa had a solid month, improving on their July numbers by 9.5%. Online poker was up, earning over $1.16 million, while table games swelled to $2.3 million.
Borgata finished the month with $3.47 million in total win. They remain the industry leader in New Jersey with $30.6 million in Internet win earned through August.
Golden Nugget Takes Huge Hit - Caesars Remains Flat
The Golden Nugget took a huge 16.6% drop month-over-month. Total win in August was just $787,838 compared to $944,840 in July. Their bad month actually allowed Trump Plaza to close the gap in annual win rate. Less than $1,000 separates the two properties, with the Nugget earning $5,054,965 through August.
Caesars saw a minor drop in revenues in August. They pulled in $2,705,475 compared to $2,716,594 in July. The drop came primarily from table games. Caesars claimed $23.94 million in win through August, making them second overall.
Trump Properties Improve
While both the Trump Plaza and Trump Taj are closing their doors soon, their online sites continue to make small gains.
Trump Plaza jumped 4.6% in August, pulling in $709,674 in gaming win. Trump Taj experienced a rise of 2.6% with a win of $602,595.
Both properties remain the state's cellar dwellers. Trump Plaza has closed the gap on Golden Nugget with annual win of $5,053,599. The Taj has pulled in just $4.92 million through August.
What Does the Future Hold for NJ iGaming?
The landscape of NJ iGaming could change dramatically by year's end. Both Trump properties are scheduled to close and their iGaming partners will be forced to find new allies or shut down.
Betfair is currently in the market for a new partner and Ultimate Gaming has yet to make an announcement on their plans should the Taj shutdown occur in November as has been reported.
In addition, PokerStars is now just weeks away from having their NJ iGaming license approved, according to State Senator Ray Lesniak. Many have predicted that PokerStars will grab a huge share of the New Jersey online poker and gambling market once they open for business.
